Richard Wootan, M.D. is a board certified General Surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Wootan received his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University, Summa Cum Laude. He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and completed his Internship and Residency in General Surgery at St. Paul’s Hospital. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery.

Dr. Wootan is a member of the American College of Surgeons, Texas Medical Association, Texas Surgical Society, and Dallas County Medical Society. Dr. Wootan’s additional professional activities have included:

  • Member of the State Review Program Committee of the Texas Medical Foundation

  • Governor appointment to serve as District Review Board member on the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners

  • Clinical assistant professor of Surgery at Southwestern Medical School

  • Past president of the Dallas Society of General Surgeons

  • Overseeing medical residents in training for 16 years


Dr. Wootan was voted by his peers as one of D Magazine's top doctors. He was voted a "Texas Super Doctor" as featured in Texas Monthly magazine from 2004-2020. Consumers’ Research Council of America has voted Dr. Wootan one of ‘America’s Top Surgeons’ for 13 years. His office consistently earns five stars for patient satisfaction from the consumer guide, Talk of the Town.

Dr. Wootan is married with two children. In his free time, he enjoys time with his family and fly fishing.
